BERMUDO -I- o Vermudo -I-

Bermudo -I- de Asturias. Llamado El Diácono
Rey de Asturias, hijo de Fruela y proclamado rey a la muerte de Mauregato en el año 789.
Vive retirado en un monasterio. Le obligan a contraer matrimonio y le nombran rey en perjuicio del infante su sobrino Alfonso II
Derrota a los moros en varias ocasiones y de las rafias que realiza contra ellos reparte los botines con su sobrino el infante Alfonso.
Cuando estuvo seguro de que Alfonso no sería rechazado por el pueblo, renuncia a la corona, se separa de su mujer, cede la corona a su sobrino Alfonso -II- y se recluye nuevamente en un monasterio.
Desde su retiro vive aconsejando al nuevo rey hasta su muerte en el año 791, en que una rafia contra los moros que asolan la zona lo emboscan en el rio Burbia dándole muerte.

Su sucesor a la corona fue Alfonso -II-
